Marlowe Berg

Marlowe Berg is Professor Emeritus in the College of Education at San Diego State University.  As an educator she has received national recognition in the development of collaborative programs.  The Model Education Center, a professional development school of which she was the founder, was awarded a Distinguished Program in Teacher Education award by the Association of Teacher Educators.  Dr. Berg was also one of the original planners of the City Height Collaborative, a joint program between San Diego State University and the Price Foundation, dedicated to creating innovation in schools.  She also was instrumental in the development of the Peer Coaching program, a teacher to teacher project between SDSU and San Diego Unified School District.

Dr. Berg has published widely and made numerous presentations at national conferences on the development and impact of educational collaborations.  Her work on professional development school models has been replicated in a number of settings in the United States.   She has also been the principal investigator on a number of grants focusing on collaboration and staff development, and served as a consultant to the State Department of Education as well as several school districts on collaborative programs.

Marlowe Berg provided leadership in the creation of the Doctorate in Education program in the College of
Education.  She was involved in the writing of the proposal to produce a new doctorate, which was accepted by the California Department of Education and was its founding director.  The doctoral program currently serves professionals in the fields of literacy and technology, with a graduation rate of 90%.

In 1995 Dr. Berg was selected as the outstanding faculty member in the College of
Education for her work in teacher education programs.
